Folding and Unfolding: An Introduction to Some Simple Book Structures and Artists' Books

Students in this workshop will learn to make several simple book structures, each of which has great potential for making artists' books. We'll explore a few book structures in class by making some simple models using card stock: a circular book, an accordion book, books made from one sheet of paper, and the Hungarian Map fold. We'll talk about technical problems and solutions to these problems. Students will then choose one book structure that they especially like and use it to make their own artist's book.

Ten Cool Techniques for Gelliprinting

​

This workshop will focus on ten interesting techniques for using the gelliplate. It will include some basic concepts related to gelliprinting and discuss different types of paint and paper. Students will then try out these techniques on their own, using most of the rest of the workshop to perfect these techniques and make multiple prints using the methods they enjoy the most. We'll also discuss ways that gelliprints can be used and show some examples of things made with gelliprints, including  collages, artists’ books, and coasters.
